Perry McAlister

AmeriCorps Site Coordinator at Moravia Park Elementary School

Hello. My name is Perry McAlister and I will be serving as Site Coordinator for Moravia Park during the 2016-2017 school year. My relationship to this school and the community is a special one, as I was raised just a few blocks away. As such, I care deeply about the students I serve and doing what I can to help them grow not just in reading, but in all areas that lead to success.

I graduated from University of Baltimore in 2012 with a BS. in Simulation and Digital Entertainment. That is...a really fancy way of saying "video game design." In my current role, I use the knowledge I gained there to create a fun atmosphere for both the students and the tutors in the reading center, as well as developing creative activities to teach and support our students.

As a Site Coordinator with Reading Partners, I believe that every student who comes into the reading center is capable of success. I am excited to work alongside our amazing community volunteers to give our students an amazing Reading Partners year!

Meet the Literacy Lead

Jonelle Whitlock is the Literacy Lead at Moravia Park Elementary School. She is on hand to provide full time tutoring to our students and additional support to the Reading Center.

Meet the Reading Partners team

Allison Jones

Regional Site Coordinator for Baltimore

This is Allison’s second year as an AmeriCorps member with Reading Partners Baltimore. She will be traveling between five different schools to support volunteers and site coordinators in their work with students. She is excited to develop new strategies for students to build a love of reading. Her favorite children’s book is Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, which she will happily read with any student who asks.

 Crystal Lowery

 Program Manager for Baltimore

A native of Baltimore, Crystal received her education in Baltimore County Public School. Upon graduating from high school, she attended Coppin State  University where she earned her bachelor's degree in psychology, minoring in early childhood education. Crystal’s experience ranges from working with i  infants to pre-kindergarteners within private childcare programs, Baltimore City Public Schools and Head Start/Early Head Start. Crystal worked in the  education field not only educating and teaching children, but also mentoring and training volunteers. She joined Reading Partners 2-years ago as an  Americorps Regional Site Coordinator.  Last year she became a member of the Reading Partners staff as a Program Associate; this year she enters into her new role as Program Manager. Through her professional experience, she has realized that literacy is the foundation for success in learning and for success in life. She believes that in order to help someone succeed in learning, you must provide each child (and adult learner) with the right attention and care they need to reach their developmental goals. In addition to working with children, Crystal also enjoy working with administrators, educators, specialist, parents, and the greater community; she believes that educating children is a collaborated effort of many.
